The Honeybee LIBS Analyzer is a non-contact sensor system used to rapidly determine the elemental composition of unprepared geological samples. Developed in conjunction with a major mining concern, the analyzer promises to streamline grade control and exploration for a variety of natural resources.
Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is an analytical method that uses a high-energy laser pulse to generate a plasma on the surface of the sample under test. The plasma contains a mix of excited atoms representative of the composition of the sample; these atoms emit photons at wavelengths that are characteristic for each element. The elemental composition of the sample can be determined through spectral analysis of the emitted light.
