Honeybee Robotics Spacecraft Mechanisms Corporation has received the 2012 NASA JPL center-level Small Business Industry Award for its support of NASA’s mission. The award, administered by the Office of Small Business Programs, recognizes companies that deliver innovative solutions on time and on budget to enable NASA to achieve its goals for space research and exploration.
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory nominated Honeybee for its support of the Mars Science Laboratory. Honeybee contributed two important subsystems to the rover – the Dust Removal Tool and the Sample Manipulation System – and continues to support exploration as the lead on the SAM operations team. These contributions have been critical to helping the MSL team determine that Mars once had a wet, habitable environment.
The Office of Small Business Programs at NASA Headquarters serves to promote and integrate small businesses into the competitive base of contractors that pioneer the future of space exploration, scientific discovery, and aeronautics research.
The award was presented to Honeybee at the NASA Small Business Industry Award ceremony on June 27, 2013 in Pasadena, CA. Images of the ceremony are available on the Honeybee Robotics Facebook page.
