Rolling Contact Connector
Honeybee’s patented Rolling Contact Connector (RCC) is a brushless slip ring that allows for the transfer of high power across a continuously rotating joint with less parasitic torque and longer life than traditional solutions. Using flexible conductive rings, the RCC eliminates sliding contact and thus minimizes frictional heat and particulate generation. The RCC technology is highly scalable; it can be applied to compact units to meet high current-carrying requirements, or to large-scale units to minimize parasitic torque loss.
Rolling Contact Connectors are able to carry a high current, up to hundreds of amps. They exhibit low parasitic torques — unlike traditional brushed slip rings or twist capsules, adding current carrying capacity will not cause a large increase in parasitic torque. They are low-noise systems: our 6-channel unit has a maximum noise of 3 μV/mA, enabling data transmission rates of up to 2 MHz. And they are extremely long-lived, with no reduction in electrical performance or visible wear on conductive surfaces after more than 16 million revolutions.
